What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is based on the work of Dr Samuel Hahnemann, a doctor and chemist in Germany in the early 1800s. Homeopathy is the use of an ultra-diluted substance by the knowledge that the same substance in a more concentrated form could cause symptoms similar to those observed. It is a system of therapeutics based on the theory that ‘like cures like’. Homoeopathic remedies can be used safely in conjunction with conventional therapy and may assist in recovery and return to good pet health. Homeopathy can also be used as part of first aid, e.g. after insect bites; to treat bruising; shock; and to help with pain and inflammation.
How does it work?
Homeopathy works on the deepest levels of the immune system. Sickness or disease will only begin in a system that is unhealthy in some regard. Bacteria or viruses are efficiently dealt with by a healthy immune system. Homeopathic medicine can stimulate the immune system to go back to a healthy, normal state. It will not act as an anti-inflammatory or as a bug killer but will allow the body to act in this capacity itself where it was previously unable.
Homeopathy may help pets with:
- Bee stings and insect bites
- Bruising and inflammation
- Boosting the immune system
- Clearing toxins
- Preventing ill effects from vaccination
- Shock after an accident or emotional upset
- Undefined fear
How will my pet respond?
Correctly applied homeopathy can be a remarkable and effective system of medicine, which has the benefit of being safe and without side-effects. The remedies can be used to treat any type of animal of any age without fear of doing any harm. If the wrong treatment is given, then quite simply nothing happens. Squirted directly into the mouth, homeopathy is extremely easy to administer. As with all medicines, each patient will respond differently. Some will heal faster than others, and what works for one patient may not work for another.
“Jasmine, my black Labrador, was growing up very quickly. During this high-growth period, she developed a limp in her front right paw. She was diagnosed with a bone growth issue that she was expected to grow out of, and in the meantime she was prescribed painkillers. The limp continued for months. Looking for other options, I was recommended a homeopathic mixture from the in-house homeopath at Paws Connect. Within two weeks, Jasmine’s limp had completely disappeared, never to return.”
